The Beauty of Blue Lake in Gede Pangrango National Park, West Java, Indonesia




            

The Blue Lake is one of remarkable spot that can be enjoyed when travelers exploring the Gede Pangrango National Park, a famous natural tourist destination in West Java, Indonesia. The Lake located at an altitude of 1,575 meters above the sea level or about 1.5 km from Cibodas entrance gate. It has a unique color of the water that can vary dramatically, sometimes can be green, brown, or blue depending on the growth cycle of algae in the water. The typical rainforest trees surround the lake and cool air enrich the charm of this spot. If you are lucky, you can see turtles the habitants of the Lake do sun-bathing in the morning.   

Located close to the Blue Lake, some other fascinating spots are Gayonggong Swamp and Cibeureum Triple Waterfalls. Gayonggong Swamp materialized from former crater which later accommodates the flow of water from higher grounds, as a place where gayonggong grass grown. The Swamp is equipped with a long wooden bridge track and simple rest area/gazebo developed by the management. This area is the home range of leopards (Panthere pardus) and as a bird watching spot. 

Other sports that should not be missed to be visited is Cibeureum Waterfall along with two other small waterfalls: Cidendeng and Cikundul. The wall of those waterfalls overgrown with red moss (Spagnum gedeanum) that create reddish effect to the water, the reason why Sundanese called it as Cibeureum (red water rivers). Conservation of red frogs (Leptophyrene cruentata) are threteaned in this location. This area is the most visited by travelers. High rainfall occurred in this area particularly in the period of October to May.
